Adam Kungu, a renowned Ugandan Media personality , has earned a Master of Science in Mass Communication from Kampala International University (KIU).
The graduation ceremony, held at KIU’s Western Campus in Ishaka, Bushenyi District, coincided with the university’s 25th anniversary celebration.
At 33, Kungu widely known for his insightful political commentary has become a fixture in Uganda’s media landscape. He currently hosts NBS Barometer and NBS Eagle on NBS TV, two of the country’s leading Luganda-language political talk shows, along with Morning Xpress on Sanyuka TV.
His latest academic milestone is the culmination of a journey that began in April 2023 and concluded with a successful defense of his master’s thesis.
His research, titled “International Media Propaganda and News Coverage of the Tigray Conflict,” examines global media narratives surrounding the war in Ethiopia’s Tigray region.

“I’m thrilled to graduate during KIU’s 25th anniversary,My thesis was driven by a desire to challenge biased media narratives that misrepresent African conflicts like the Tigray war.”, Adam Kungu said.
Adam Kungu acknowledged the demanding balance between his full-time media work and academic obligations.
“Balancing late-night broadcasts with research deadlines was exhausting.But tackling a sensitive topic like the Tigray conflict only deepened my resolve to pursue journalism that informs rather than inflames.”,he noted.
Kungu began his journalism career in 2016 as a political writer for Sunrise Newspaper, later contributing to SoftPower News and Plus News Uganda. His reporting focused on regional issues across the Horn of Africa. In 2019, he transitioned to radio and TV, hosting influential political programs on Top Radio and Television, and later BaBa Television and Radio 4.
In 2023, he took on the role of station manager at Radio 4 before joining Next Media, further solidifying his role as a leading voice in Ugandan media. His work has taken him to Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia, where he covered complex conflicts with a commitment to balanced reporting. “Media framing can escalate tensions,” he said, stressing the role of responsible journalism in peacebuilding.
Reflecting on his time at KIU where he also completed his undergraduate studies in Mass Communication Kungu praised the university’s practical approach and diverse learning environment.
“My education at KIU prepared me for the fast-paced demands of broadcast journalism,It shaped both my career and my worldview.” Adam Kungu said.
With this academic achievement, Kungu reaffirms his commitment to impactful journalism across Africa.
“This degree strengthens my resolve to use media as a force for truth and positive change,” he added.
