Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, is facing eviction from his office premises after his landlord raised the rent significantly.

According to Alex Luswa Luwemba, the MP’s Personal Assistant, the notice to vacate was issued on December 28, 2024, after the rent was increased from Shs 700,000 to Shs 2 million per month.

The landlord justified the hike by citing rising property rates, but Luwemba believes the eviction is politically motivated.

He stated that the landlord’s notice gave them no time to settle the new rent, demanding they vacate by January 7, 2025.

Upon investigation, they discovered that a politician had allegedly conspired with brokers to evict them from the strategically located premises.

Currently, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya and his team are searching for more affordable office space, ideally at a monthly rent of Shs 400,000. This would allow them to allocate the remaining Shs 300,000 to support struggling mothers through the Ssegibox campaign.

Luwemba also pointed out that this isn’t the first eviction Muhammad Ssegirinya has faced; he was previously forced to leave his home just a day before the election nominations.

Nevertheless, he remains confident that as long as he is alive, Hon. Muhammad Ssegirinya will continue to thrive and rise above such challenges.
