Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court has issued a summons for Herbert Anderson Burora, the former deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Rubaga Division, in relation to charges of hate speech.
The summons was issued after Burora failed to appear for his court hearing on Tuesday, with neither his legal representatives nor sureties present to explain his absence.
Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi has ordered Burora to appear in court on January 7, 2025.
Burora faces six charges, including hate speech and the dissemination of malicious communication.
Prosecutors allege that between March and June 2024, Burora used his X account, “Harder HB,” to share false and damaging information about Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among.
The claims depicted her as a torturer, murderer, kidnapper, and corrupt official. Prosecutors argue that such statements were intended to insult, degrade, and incite hostility toward Ms. Among.
Burora has denied the allegations.
