Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Sam Omala, currently hospitalized at Mulago Hospital, has asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have wronged during his lifetime.
According to his son, Mutukuvu Devine Omala, the former police officer, who is now unable to speak clearly, requested that his son deliver a public apology on his behalf.
Mutukuvu shared that his father, a seasoned officer, had been battling cancer for some time before being taken to Nairobi, Kenya, for treatment.
“He could still talk and walk when we first took him to Nairobi,” the son explained. “However, while in Kenya, he collapsed, and doctors told us his blood pressure was critically low.”
After his condition stabilized, Omala asked to return home, and they brought him back in a wheelchair. But his health continued to decline, leading to his emergency admission to Mulago Hospital.
“Doctors ran several tests and found that, in addition to cancer, his kidneys are also affected,” Mutukuvu said. Omala has been bedridden at Mulago Hospital for the past two weeks.
Omala, who served as the Kampala North Police Operations Commander, retired from the force in 2020 after reaching the age of 60. He is particularly remembered for his role in managing the 2011 walk-to-work protests led by opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Following his retirement, he lived quietly until 2023, when he became the Deputy CEO of Operations at Arrow Security Systems Limited, a private security firm owned by Captain Mike Mukula.
