Security forces have successfully rescued Muhammad Ali Abdul Amidu, an Egyptian diplomat, who was kidnapped on November 8, 2024, by unidentified assailants.
Amidu, an official at the Egyptian Embassy, was abducted on Zanna Entebbe Road and taken to an undisclosed location. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of $40,000 (approximately Shs 148 million) and threatened to harm him if their demands were not met.
The Egyptian Embassy promptly reported the incident to Jinja Road Police Station. In response, security operatives from the Crime Intelligence Unit and the Directorate of Intelligence Services of the UPDF launched a coordinated operation to track the suspects.
On November 13, 2024, at approximately 2:00 PM, law enforcement intercepted the kidnappers as they were en route to Pearl Motel in Buloba, Wakiso District. The suspects were traveling in a Toyota Noah, registration number UAZ 247S, with three individuals aboard.
During the confrontation, one suspect was shot dead, and Amidu was rescued unharmed. Two suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing.
