The Police has warned National Unity platform (NUP) against holding what it termed as unlawful processions and meetings in Mityana District.
It should be noted that last week ,Inspector General of Police ( IGP) ,Abbas Byakagaba halted all rallies of NUP, two days after they had been cleared.
The IGP’s directive follows NUP ‘s lawlessness that was exhibited on Friday on the Masaka road as it’s president Robert Kyagulanyi which resulted into the death of three individuals.
While addressing the media ealier today, Wamala region police Spokesperson , Rachel Kawala revealed that they obtained information about the plans by NUP to hold unlawful consultative meetings on June 4,2024 in Mityana.
She said that the joint task force will take resolute enforcement action in accordance with the law against any illegal acts to promote the rule of law.
“We would like to remind the public that the Police management on June 1, 2024, halted any further consultative activities of National Unity Platform (NUP) as a party on public and road safety reasons.
However, we have obtained information on plans by NUP in Mityana about holding consultative meetings on June 4, 2024, in the district. We would like to warn all intending participants and other members of the public not to join the unauthorized processions. The joint task force will take very resolute enforcement action in accordance with the law against any illegal acts in order to promote the rule of law.
