Among some of the things late chief of Defence ( CDF) general Francis Olloga asked for his burial was not to be buried in coffin but to be wrapped in sheets.
The chief of Defence Forces (CDF) , Francis Olloga breathed his last on Thursday afternoon after Kenya Defence Forces ( KDF) helicopter crashed in Sindar, Elgeyo-Marakwet county.
According to the announcement made by the family,the late Chief of Defence Forces, General Francis Ogolla, will be laid to rest on Sunday without a coffin , in accordance with his explicit wishes.
General Ogolla’s elder brother, Canon Hezekiah Oduor, revealed that the Sunday burial ceremony will embody simplicity, mirroring the General’s desire for an unadorned farewell.
Odur also revealed that his late brother’s graveyard would be as simple as their kin had requested.
On the other hand, Ogolla’s sister, Peres noted that the General had prepared them for his death. She indicated that the CDF even picked the place where he needed to be buried.
Peres noted that Ogolla will be buried behind his house in Ng’iya, Siaya County.
“He even pointed to me where he wanted to be buried. The General even told me that army personnel can die at any time, therefore, he prepared what his burial will be like,” she stated.
Ogolla is expected to be airlifted from Nairobi to Siaya County on Sunday, April 20. His body will then be taken to church, which will be consecrated by the Anglican Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit.
Afterwards, he will be taken to his home for burial rights.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is expected to hold a military honours ceremony at Ulizi Complex on Saturday at 1 pm.
“In accordance with military procedures, the Military Honours ceremony will be conducted on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata from 1 pm. The honours will include a church service, military parade and a 19-gun salute,” read the KDF statement in part.
