The National Unity platform ( NUP) has dismissed Nyendo – Mukungwe MP , Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba as their party deputy president ( Central Region) as the row within the party deepens .
NUP’s decision stemmed from Mpuuga inability to defend himself against allegations of corruption and abuse of his office.
“The President of the National Unity Platform has suspended Hon. Mathias Mpuuga from the position of Deputy President (Central Region) for engaging in actions of corruption and abuse of office- which actions he has failed to give any satisfactory explanation for.”, the statement on party social media channels reads.
It should be noted that Mpuuga , along with the speaker of Parliament and other parliamentary commissioners are accused of allocating themselves UGX 1.7 billion of taxpayers’ money as service awards.
Later he was told to resign from his position as Parilamentary commissioner which he refused , stressing that the Shs500 million ‘ service Award’ was a gratuity given to him by the Parliament commission and therefore ,he had not committed any misconduct.
Over yesterday, Mpuuga held a press where he pledged his commitment to the party and refuted allegations of engaging himself in corruption activities.
He stated that despite receiving criticism from the public and with party executive , assured the nation that he is still NUP member and that he has no intentions of quitting since he is one of the founding members.
