Ugandan songstress Karole Kasita has sounded the alarm over the never-ending delay of Uganda’s amended copyright law and she is not holding back.

Speaking out on the growing frustration among musicians, Kasita revealed that artistes have pushed for stronger protection of their work for years, only to be met with silence and slow action from authorities.

According to the singer, the copyright reform struggle has stretched across generations of musicians, making the continued postponement both painful and difficult to justify.

“There was a time when musicians stood together and had a strong voice. Today, many feel we were only important when our support was needed,” Kasita said.

She added that the excitement and unity that once fueled the copyright campaign have steadily faded, largely due to lack of transparency in the process  a situation she says has weakened trust in the system.

Kasita noted that many artistes now feel overlooked and taken for granted, despite their continued contribution to Uganda’s entertainment industry.

However, she insisted that hope is not completely lost. She praised the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) for staying committed to the cause, singling out Eddy Kenzo for what she described as personal sacrifice and selfless leadership.

“Some leaders are still fighting for the industry, not for themselves. That’s why we still believe this law will one day become reality,” she said.

As pressure mounts, the music industry is now watching closely to see whether the long-promised copyright reforms will finally move from promises to action.
