Charles Bukenya Muvawala, the Vice President of the Uganda North American Association (UNAA), has been remanded to Luzira Prison following his arrest and court appearance on Wednesday.
According to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, Muvawala was violently arrested by armed security operatives on Monday in Rubaga. The arrest reportedly happened shortly after NUP leaders visited Bulange.

Bobi Wine says Muvawala was targeted for recording security personnel as they allegedly assaulted NUP supporters. He was detained at Nateete Police Station together with other party supporters.
On Wednesday, Muvawala was taken to court and charged with computer misuse. The court remanded him to Luzira Prison until December 23, when his case will be mentioned again.
In a statement shared on social media, Bobi Wine accused the government of criminalising citizens for documenting security brutality, saying the move comes amid growing international criticism over videos and photos showing violence against civilians.

He added that Muvawala, a Ugandan-born U.S. citizen, was beaten, had his phone confiscated, and later charged for recording the incident.
Muvawala’s arrest has revived memories of a past incident in 2025 when he went missing outside a Kampala nightspot. At the time, there were fears he had been abducted by state agents over his political views. He was later found dumped in a swamp in Buliisa District, reportedly bearing signs of torture.

More updates will follow as the case develops.
