Renowned Ugandan Singer and songwriter Yesse Oman Rafiki has finally opened up about one of the darkest periods of his life a time overshadowed by drug abuse, depression, and betrayal.
The acclaimed hitmaker, known for crafting some of the biggest songs in Uganda and mentoring rising stars, revealed how he has evolved from a troubled artist into a focused businessman in the music industry.
Reflecting on his past, Rafiki described his former struggles as a “childish stage” that he has long outgrown.
“The drugs and depression matters were childish,” he admitted, acknowledging that at the time, he lacked maturity and direction.
Now speaking from a place of growth, experience, and financial wisdom, Rafiki says he has become a grounded, business-minded man who understands the ups and downs of his career.
“We are now grown-ups and businessmen who have made deals and experienced both losses and profits. So yes, the drugs and depression issues were childish,” he added.
Addressing claims that he has been stuck in his career, Rafiki dismissed the rumors, explaining that his generosity was often mistaken for stagnation.
“I’ve never been stuck in life. I just had a generous heart, and when you show kindness to people, they sometimes take advantage of it,” he said.
Having learned from those experiences, the artist has since taken firm steps to protect his brand and elevate his work. He revealed that his team has raised song-writing fees and now only collaborates with serious, capable clients.
“We increased the rates for our songs. Now we only work with able and committed clients,” Rafiki explained.
With renewed focus and discipline, Yesse Oman Rafiki continues to reshape his legacy not just as a musician, but as a businessman determined to inspire and lead by example.
