Gen Sabiiti, who currently heads Uganda’s military industrial complex, was involved in a head-on collision with a truck transporting cattle, according to the Traffic Police spokesperson, Superintendent of Police (SP) Michael Kananura.

“We are still collecting details about the incident, but preliminary reports indicate that the General’s vehicle collided with a cattle truck,” SP Kananura said.

Following the crash, Maj Gen Sabiiti was airlifted by a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) helicopter to Nakasero Hospital in Kampala for treatment. The exact nature and extent of his injuries have not yet been publicly disclosed.

SP Kananura stated that a detailed briefing would be held on Monday.

“I’ll share a full update tomorrow, but I can confirm for now that the General is no longer in critical condition,” he said.

Sources close to the matter said Gen Sabiiti had been attending the introduction ceremony of President Yoweri Museveni’s granddaughter, Nsasiirwe Karugire, who is engaged to the son of Lt Gen Sam Kavuma.

When asked whether any arrests had been made, SP Kananura noted that investigations were still ongoing.

“You can’t arrest anyone until it’s clear who was at fault. That’s what we’re working to determine,” he said.
