State Minister for Youth, Balaam Barugahara, has claimed that President Yoweri Museveni lost approximately two million votes in the 2021 general elections due to alleged electoral fraud by the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Speaking with a tone of sarcasm during his recent interview, Balaam suggested that President Museveni chose not to aggressively defend his vote during the election against his main challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

He alleged that the President’s votes were taken by NUP, branding the incident as a case of electoral theft.
“Mzee’s votes were stolen by NUP in the last election about two million votes disappeared. We know who did it. The President even showed us the evidence, and I was extremely upset, but this time, it’s a different story. Every vote will be verified by computer, so those thinking of tampering with the results should forget it.”,Balaam said.

Balaam added that the ruling party is now better prepared to safeguard its votes, with systems in place to prevent any possible rigging in the upcoming elections.
President Museveni has consistently accused NUP of electoral malpractice, insisting that he has evidence to prove the party’s involvement. However, NUP has challenged him to present this evidence in court—a step that has yet to be taken.

As Uganda prepares for the 2026 general elections, the Electoral Commission has announced the adoption of a biometric voting system, aiming to increase transparency and accuracy in the electoral process.
