Kampala Metropolitan Police have confirmed the arrest of Eva Mbabazi, a woman , who was widely speculated on social media to be the last person seen with the late Dr. John Spire Kiggundu.

Dr. Kiggundu was found dead on June 21, 2025 just an hour after he checked into the Dream Guest House in Lubowa, along Entebbe Road, at approximately 5:45 PM.

Following the incident, police launched an active search for Mbabazi. According to spokesperson Patrick Onyango, their efforts paid off this week.

“We’ve been looking for her, and this week, we finally arrested her and brought her in,” Onyango confirmed.

He added that Mbabazi has been cooperative since her arrest, providing key information that has helped investigators piece together the circumstances surrounding Dr. Kiggundu’s death.

A major breakthrough in the case came from CCTV footage recovered from the Dream Guest House. The video captured Mbabazi leaving the room that John Spire Kiggundu had booked, linking her directly to the scene shortly before his body was discovered.

This evidence validated earlier social media claims and gave investigators a concrete lead, ultimately resulting in her arrest.

With Mbabazi now in custody and having given her statement, the investigation has entered a pivotal stage. Onyango stated that the case file has been forwarded to the state attorney for legal evaluation.

“Since this was a general inquiry file, we haven’t attached a charge sheet yet, We’re waiting for the state attorney to advise us on whether she has a case to answer and what specific charges, if any, should be filed.”,Onyango explained.
