Musician Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool, through his attorney Timothy Sentongo of RSK Associates, has announced plans to sue Comedy Store owner Alex Muhangi for allegedly using his content without permission.
In a letter outlining his intent to sue, Bebe Cool claims that between October 2017 and November 2025 (likely intended to be November 2024), Muhangi has deliberately used his performances on his media platforms for commercial purposes without authorization.
The letter, which was also sent to the Uganda Registration Service Bureau (Directorate of Intellectual Property), Uganda Communications Commission, and Uganda Performing Rights Society, emphasizes that Muhangi has no legal right to distribute, broadcast, or use Bebe Cool’s performances on his platforms.
Reports suggest that Muhangi has been posting Bebe Cool’s content on his YouTube channel, and the Comedy Store show is also aired on NTV Uganda.
The letter reads, “You are fully aware that in business ventures, your actions of unjust enrichment have severely harmed Bebe Cool financially, exploited his musical works, infringed on his performance rights, and caused significant damage to his reputation and finances.”
Muhangi has been instructed to immediately stop broadcasting Bebe Cool’s performances for commercial gain and to remove any unauthorized content from his platforms.
Sentongo has also demanded that Muhangi provide a detailed record of all revenue generated from the unauthorized use and pay Shs579,698,550 in compensation for the infringement and damages caused.
Muhangi has been given 14 days from the date of receiving the letter to comply.
Sentongo also warned that if his demands are not met, he will initiate both civil and criminal proceedings against Muhangi.
The dispute comes after Bebe Cool accused Muhangi of breaching their contract and defaming him on social media.
