General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, has fired back at Winnie Byanyima’s recent comments about her past relationship with President Yoweri Museveni.
Byanyima, who is the Executive Director of UNAIDS,earlier had described her relationship with Museveni as “normal,” but Muhoozi strongly disagreed with this portrayal.
In response to a post by Next Radio, where Byanyima stated, “It was a normal relationship with President Museveni. It had some challenges, and I left it, but it is not relevant to the political discussion,”.
Muhoozi, the son of President Museveni, dismissed her account, saying there was nothing normal about their relationship.

Muhoozi retorted, “There was NOTHING normal about your relationship with my father. You found a happy home and tried to wreck it. You’re a DISASTER of a woman! You didn’t leave—Mzee kicked you out of the house in December 1986, dragged you to the car while you were crying, and sent you to your parents.”
Byanyima, who recently announced that she is working on a book about her past relationship with Museveni, responded to the topic during a discussion on NBS TV.
Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda had raised her past ties with Museveni, which led her to reveal that more details would be shared in her forthcoming book.
“If it is really of interest to him, he should wait for my book, it is an interesting story!” Byanyima posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Before marrying Dr. Kizza Besigye in 1999, Byanyima had a romantic relationship with Museveni. She and Besigye have a son, Anselm Besigye, who is currently pursuing a PhD at Columbia University.
