The Electoral Commission has announced a seven-day extension for the general update of the national voters’ register, now set to run from Tuesday, February 11 to Monday, February 17, 2025.
At a press briefing this afternoon at the headquarters in Kampala, Justice Simon Byabakama, the chairperson, confirmed that this would be the final extension of the update period.
“Taking into account field observations, assessments, and appeals from various stakeholders, the Commission has decided to extend the update period by seven days. After this, there will be no further extensions,” Justice Byabakama stated.
He clarified that the extension aims to give eligible, unregistered voters the opportunity to complete their registration.

Throughout this period, the update exercise will continue at designated update stations, operating daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including weekends.
Byabakama also noted that since the 2021 general elections, the voters’ register has been continuously updated by extracting information from citizens registered with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), who have been verified as citizens and indicated a preferred polling station (either their parish of origin or parish of residence).
As of today, the national voters’ register has grown to 19,925,574 voters, an increase from the 18,103,603 registered for the 2020/2021 general elections.
