The shadow minister of Gender, labor and development in the opposition government, Fortunate Nantongo has responded to the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) president, Eddy Kenzo in regards to his requests from the government.
Last year, UNMF members led by Eddy Kenzo formally documented their request for the government to purchase for them Serena Suites Hotel in Mutundwe to establish it as a permanent hub / resident for Musicians. They also requested access to recording studios since they were facing financial constraints that made it difficult for them to produce songs during the pandemic.
However, according to Kyotera district woman MP ,Fortunate Nantongo stressed that the government is not obligated to house Musicians since they are not refugees they are Ugandan citizen that the government is only obligated to provide shelter to refugees who are seeking asylum in the country.
She further refuted Eddy Kenzo’s accusations that some legislators on gender and labor committee are playing politics with intention of causing disorganization in the music industry and that are the same people who pocketed money given to the music industry by the government.
She said that if Eddy Kenzo has evidence let bring it forward to the floor of the Parliament or committee instead of him lamenting on social media with proganda.
