Renowned Ugandan artist Ykee Benda has opened up about the heartfelt journey that led to his engagement with his now fiancée, Emilly Nyawira.
In a deeply emotional four-minute video shared on his social media, Ykee poured out his heart, recounting the beginning of their love story and the meaningful moments that brought them to where they are today.
“Hi Emilly, my love, my best friend…” he begins, speaking directly to the woman who has captured his heart.
Ykee takes his fans back to the first time he saw Emilly at a friend’s birthday party. She wore one of the most stunning black dresses he had ever seen, yet she remained shy and unassuming. Despite her quiet presence, she caught his attention immediately.
He asked his cousin to introduce them, and from there, a simple exchange of phone numbers turned into long, meaningful conversations that he never wanted to end.
“Every morning I waited on your good morning text like it was a drug,” he recalls with a smile.
He speaks fondly of Emilly’s peaceful nature, her kindness, and how she treats everyone — even strangers — with compassion. Through her, he says, he learned to be more open and accommodating. They shared countless nights talking, laughing, and building memories including an unforgettable trip to Jinja that felt like a lifetime wrapped in just three days.
One of the most touching moments in his story came during the COVID-19 lockdown, when he forged documents pretending to be a health worker just so he could drive over and sit with her in the car. That’s when he officially asked her to be his girlfriend.
Another defining moment was when Emilly volunteered to help him run his small business, Dante Financial, without expecting a salary. Her dedication, commitment, and work ethic revealed not just a romantic partner, but a true teammate — someone he could build a life with.
“You’re my biggest hype man, and also my biggest critic and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Ykee disclosed.
He describes her laugh as the weirdest yet most contagious thing in the world, and a day without hearing it feels incomplete.
Looking toward their future, Ykee shares his dreams from traveling the world together to raising beautiful children who inherit her kindness and grace. He imagines a marriage grounded in faith and unshakable friendship.
“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me. You’ve brought a certain fever into my life… You’ve strengthened my relationship with God.”he said visibly emotional
In his final words, Ykee offers a heartfelt proposal promising to make her the happiest woman alive if she says yes.
