Singer-turned-politician Mathias Walukaga is riding a wave of confidence after securing the National Unity Platform (NUP) parliamentary flag for Busiro East, expressing certainty about his chances in the upcoming general elections.
The NUP ticket had long been held by incumbent MP Medard Lubega Ssegona, but in a surprising twist, the party chose to endorse Walukaga instead,an announcement that sent shockwaves through political circles.

Speaking in an interview on Spark TV’s Daily Soup, the outgoing Nsangi Town Council mayor said he is already preparing for life in Parliament.
“One foot is already in Parliament,When you get the NUP card, you’ve already secured 50%. You only need 1% more to reach 51% and be sworn in.”Walukaga declared.
Walukaga attributed his victory not just to political strategy, but to divine intervention.
“My brothers who contested with me for the Busiro East NUP ticket are all educated and capable—but God made His choice. In a crowd, God always picks one,” he said.
He also made a passionate call for party unity, urging those who lost the ticket to set aside personal ambition and rally behind him.

“If I had lost, I would have stood behind the flag bearer. I now call on my brothers to do the same for the good of the National Unity Platform,” Walukaga appealed.
However, that unity may soon be tested. Ssegona has hinted at running as an independent, a move that threatens to split NUP’s support base in the constituency.
In response, Walukaga issued a firm warning against breaking ranks.
“We must not come as independents if we are to move the party forward,We went through the vetting process, we took our case to the people, and we all agreedvwhoever didn’t get the card would support the one who did.”,he cautioned.

With election season heating up, all eyes are now on Busiro East to see whether party loyalty will hold—or give way to political rivalry.
