Ugandan dancehall star Vyper Ranking has fired back at King Michael, stating bluntly that he doesn’t consider him a dancehall artist.

King Michael recently appeared in a YouTube interview where he critiqued Vyper Ranking’s music, suggesting it lacked depth and didn’t qualify him to be ranked among the top dancehall artists in the country.

In a fiery response, Vyper dismissed the comments, accusing Michael of trying to undermine his hard work and achievements in the genre.

“I don’t know King Michael as a dancehall artist, but it’s enough that he knows who I am,these days, it’s hard to talk about dancehall in Uganda without mentioning my name. I’ve earned that place through hard work. Maybe he was in the game before we were born, but that doesn’t make him relevant today.”Vyper said

Vyper went on to outline what makes a true dancehall artist, citing musical flow, lyrical prowess, and consistency on authentic dancehall beats criteria he claims King Michael does not meet.

He also suggested that Michael’s criticism came from a place of ignorance, implying that the veteran artist hadn’t taken time to properly listen to his work.

“He judged me without understanding my music. That kind of person can’t advise me. If we’re being honest, I’ve surpassed him by far. Even Jamaican artists recognize me. I honestly don’t know what kind of music he does. I can’t even name five dancehall songs from him and he stopped doing music years ago. I only remember two songs from when I was still a kid. That’s not dancehall,” Vyper added.

The “Gwookya” hitmaker made it clear that King Michael is not someone he looks up to in the industry, citing a lack of impact despite his long-standing presence in music.

“Artists like A Pass inspire me. He’s talented, his brand is strong, and his music is making waves. DJ Michael, on the other hand, has been around forever but just held his first major concert recently. That says a lot.”vyper said.

Vyper Ranking continues to position himself as one of the leading voices in Uganda’s dancehall scene, brushing off criticism and focusing on growing his brand.
