As the country’s film and Movie industry continues to upgrade and grow, there are a number of Actors and Actresses who have held the Ugandan flag both on a National and International level. Below are some of the most recognized individuals.
1. Daniel Kaluuya
Born February 1989, in London England, by Ugandan parents, Daniel Kaluuya is an actor who is known for the authenticity of his performances in a number of roles.
He begun his career as a teenager in improvisational theatre, played Kenneth in the first two seasons of the television series Skins 2007 to 2009, played in the fifteen Merits, Psychoville among others and he was most importantly recognized for a role he played in the famed Black Panther movie.
2. Florence Kasumba
Born in Kampala Uganda, Florence Kasumba is a German Actress residing in Berlin and known for her stirring roles in various prominent Hollywood superhero films including: Captain America, Civil War, Avengers Infinity War, Black Panther among others.
3. Gaetano Kagwa
He is a Uganda Actor and broadcaster who currently co hosts a breakfast show dubbed ‘Gaetano and Lucky’ in the wee hours on 91.3 Capital fm alongside Lucky Mbabazi and he was as well a judge on the East Africa’s Got Talent.
Gaetano Kagwa is prominently known for featuring roles in Beneath The Lies(2014), Changes( 111) 2011 and Juniors Drama Club airing on Pearl Magic.
4. Eleanor Nabwiiso
Known for her significant role on The Hostel, Rain, Beneath the lies, Sanyu and Bed of thorns, Elaenor Nabwiiso, married to Mathew Nabwiiso is a Ugandan actress, producer, director and television personality who together with her husband own a production company called Nabwiiso Films.
She also won Best. Actress in Television Drama at the Uganda Film Festival Awards in 2019.
5. Sarah Kisawuzi
Born on 11th November 1953, full names, Sarah Ssentongo Kisawuzi is a Igandan Actress known for Nalweyiso in the 2013 television drama series, Deception from which she won the Best Actress Award at the 2015 Ugandan Entertainment Awards.
Due to her promising talent, Sarah Kisawuzi has also starred in Queen of Katwe, Dance with Valentino, Bed of Thorns to mention but a few.
6. Nana Kagga
Also known as Nana Kagga Hill Macpherson, she is a Ugandan filmmaker, scriptwriter and Actress who wrote and directed The life and was also the producer and writer of Beneath the Lies series among others.
Nana Kagga is believed to have attended and graduated from the University of Birmingham in Chemical Engineering but decided to venture into acting.
7. Mariam Ndagire
Born on 16th may 1971, Mariam Ndagire is a Ugandan singer, entertainer, actress and playwright, film producer and Director.
She has starred in films including Nsaali, Strength of a stranger, Dear Mum, In just hours among others.
8. CleoPatra Koheirwe
Cleopatra is a Ugandan Actress, writer, singer and Media personality who was botn on 15th January 1982.
Both Locally and internationally, she has played roles in several films, dramas, and television projects. She has therefore starred in movies such as Prestige, 27 Guns, Kyadala, Yogela and gained more fame when she played in Netflix’s Sense 8 season 2.
9. Dianah Nabatanzi
She is a Ugandan Actress, entertainer, television personality and radio host, film maker and a scriptwriter.
Dianah Nabatanzi is of now a television moderator at BBS Terefayina where she hosts different shows such as sumulula, kasukali and the Ugawood show. She has played roles in different dramas such as the Junior Drama Club which airs on Pearl Magic Prime.
