Tamale Mirundi, a prominent political commentator and media personality, has passed away. The news of his death was confirmed by close friend and fellow commentator Frank Gashumba.

Mirundi, known for his outspoken and often provocative views, had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kisubi Hospital since July. Despite a glimmer of hope earlier in the month, when Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara reported Mirundi’s progress, the situation took a turn for the worse.

On July 25, Minister Barugahara had shared optimistic news with the public, praising the medical team at Kisubi Hospital for their exceptional care and expressing gratitude to Mirundi’s family for their steadfast support. His post on X (formerly Twitter) read,

“Following my visit this morning, I’m delighted to report that Mukwano gwe’bonna, Kojja Mzee Tamale Mirundi, is making tremendous progress! On behalf of the Patriotic League of Uganda and our Chairman/CDF Gen @mkainerugaba, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional doctors and the entire medical team at Kisubi Hospital for their outstanding care.”

Barugahara also acknowledged Mirundi’s family for their unwavering presence during this challenging time and expressed hope for his continued recovery, saying,

“We thank God for granting one of Uganda’s most beloved and respected media personalities another chance at life. Wishing Mzee Tamale Mirundi continued recovery and good health! God bless Uganda, God bless Mzee Tamale Mirundi, and God bless his wonderful family! #GetWellSoon #TamaleMirundi.”

However, just days earlier, Mirundi Junior had revealed a more somber reality: his father was being tube-fed and had not spoken since his admission to the ICU.

This stark update was a prelude to the tragic news that would follow.
