Ailing comedian Sammy Okanya, popularly known as Sammy of D’Mighty Family, has expressed disappointment in the financial aid he received from National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine.

Sammy, who has been battling serious health complications, revealed that the 3 million shillings Bobi Wine gave him barely made a dent in his mounting medical expenses.

Sammy once had a flourishing career in comedy as one half of the D’Mighty Family duo. However, his fortunes changed when he began mixing his comedic career with active political involvement, openly supporting the NUP and Bobi Wine. Over time, he prioritized politics over his art a move that led to multiple arrests and stints in detention, ultimately derailing his career and health.

After failed attempts to secure asylum in Canada via Kenya, Sammy found himself in an increasingly desperate situation.

Despite his loyalty to NUP, the party appeared to turn a blind eye to his cries for help. Ironically, it was singer Bebe Cool a staunch supporter of the ruling NRM party who came to Sammy’s aid, covering the cost of an essential surgical procedure. Sammy publicly thanked Bebe Cool for his support.

Eventually, NUP responded, and Bobi Wine personally contributed 3 million shillings toward Sammy’s medical care. However, during a candid appearance on Kasuku’s podcast, Sammy dismissed the amount as insufficient.

“Honestly, that 3 million they gave me did nothing for me. It barely helped. I only managed to change my medical tube, and that was it. That’s why I had to reach out to you, Kasuku, just asking for 50k for fuel.”, Sammy Okanya said .

A few days later, Sammy Okanya made headlines again, this time pleading with Bebe Cool for forgiveness after visiting Bobi Wine’s office in Kavule. He explained that the visit was a desperate move for help, not a political betrayal.

Sammy Okanya admitted that some of his previous statements had been blown out of proportion, casting him in a negative light. He accepted full responsibility for the confusion and humbly asked Bebe Cool to give him another chance, especially after his scheduled surgery was canceled and he was told to reapply for another appointment.

Kasuku, in response, offered Sammy some advice: pick a side.

“You can’t serve both God and the devil,” Kasuku said, implying that Sammy shouldn’t seek support from both NUP and NRM at the same time.

As Sammy continues to battle health and political uncertainty, the public watches to see what steps he will take next.
