Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja has urged Hon. Mathias Mpuuga, MP for Nyendo-Mukungwe and former Leader of the Opposition, to consider forming an alliance with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) instead of pursuing presidential ambitions.
Speaking at a fundraising event at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nyendo, Masaka City, Nabbanja encouraged Mpuuga to collaborate with the NRM, citing the potential for improved service delivery to the people of his constituency.

“I call upon Mpuuga to make an alliance with the NRM, just as we have one with the Democratic Party (DP), so we can better serve the people. But to the people of Masaka, I urge you not to vote for him if he runs for President not even one vote. However, if he seeks re-election for his current parliamentary seat, support him overwhelmingly.”Nabbanja said .
The Kakumiro District Woman MP also used the occasion to campaign for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, highlighting infrastructure and development projects in the region delivered under the NRM government.
When Mpuuga later addressed the congregation, he did not respond to Nabbanja’s remarks. Instead, he focused on the purpose of the event, urging all attendees to contribute toward the church’s fundraising efforts.
He noted that the current church structures were in poor condition and encouraged collective responsibility in constructing a new building.
During the fundraiser, Hon. Mpuuga contributed UGX 5 million, Prime Minister Nabbanja donated UGX 10 million, and President Museveni contributed UGX 20 million.
