The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, has refuted claims circulating on social media that she plans to contest for the presidency in Uganda’s 2026 general elections.
In an official press statement released on Thursday, Kadaga dismissed the rumors, calling the posters suggesting her presidential bid “entirely false and the work of unscrupulous and ill-mannered individuals” aimed at misleading the public.
“I wish to categorically state that I have no intention to stand for President in the forthcoming elections. I am only offering myself for re-election as Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli District,” Rebecca Kadaga affirmed.
The clarification comes amid heightened political speculation following a tense meeting of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) last month.
The meeting saw a heated exchange between Kadaga, President Yoweri Museveni, and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among during the contest for the position of NRM Second National Female Vice Chairperson a race ultimately won by Among.

Since then, political tensions have escalated in the Busoga sub-region, where Kadaga maintains strong grassroots support. Reports indicate that her supporters are planning a homecoming ceremony to show solidarity.
The statement, issued by her Press Secretary Bishop Samuel, urged the public to disregard the presidential claims and rely solely on official channels for information regarding Rebecca Kadaga’s political intentions.

Despite past grievances over the CEC elections, Kadaga’s statement signals her willingness to move on, focusing instead on her continued service to Kamuli District.
