Ugandan artist Derrick Biswanka, popularly known as Biswanka, has stunned fans with the unexpected announcement that he will be quitting music by the end of this year.

Over the weekend, the “Wendi” hitmaker took to Facebook to reveal that ongoing personal attacks from fellow musicians and relentless media scrutiny have driven him to this difficult decision.

He shared that he’s grown weary of the hostility, alleging that some artists have even gone as far as threatening his life simply because he openly refers to himself as a star.

“I’ve faced countless threats from artists who want to kill me just because I proudly call myself a big name in Uganda,” he wrote.

He also accused certain media figures of spreading negativity and propaganda about him, despite his efforts to remain respectful unless provoked.

In his post, he emphasized that artists like him often labeled as controversial are actually vital to the music scene because they keep the public engaged.

“Those of us painted as undisciplined or violent we’re the ones who fuel this industry. Without us, there’s no buzz, no stories,” he said.

Reflecting on the late Mowzey Radio, he expressed frustration that Ugandan artists are often only fully appreciated after they’re gone. He hopes his music, particularly his Christmas and love songs, will leave a lasting legacy similar to that of the legendary Philly Bongoley Lutaaya.

“I love music, but at this point, I have to choose: do I keep singing and risk dying, or walk away and live?” he concluded.

Biswanka’s announcement has sparked an outpouring of emotion from fans, many of whom are pleading with him to reconsider.
