Veteran Ugandan musician Dan Kazibwe, better known as Ragga Dee, has issued a legal warning to fellow artist Michael Mukwaya, popularly known as Mikie Wine, accusing him of copyright infringement.
In a formal notice sent by MDG Law Advocates, Ragga Dee alleges that Mikie Wine unlawfully reproduced and performed his 2004 song “Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash” without permission. The letter outlines several grievances, including:
1. Ragga Dee holds the original copyright to the song, which he has exclusively performed for over two decades.
2. Mikie Wine allegedly remixed the track—adding only the word “Zuena”—while retaining the original lyrics and message.
3. The disputed version has gained traction on social media and YouTube, heightening the controversy.
4. Mikie Wine is accused of failing to seek authorization for remixing, reproducing, or performing the song.
5. The act is claimed to breach Uganda’s Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act (Cap 222).
Ragga Dee is now demanding UGX 300 million (approximately $80,000) in compensation within seven days, warning that failure to comply will lead to a formal lawsuit.
