Kenya’s President William Ruto, has addressed the tragic helicopter crash in Elgeyo-Marakwet county, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of General Francis Omondi Ogolla and nine other military personnel.
“Today at 2:20pm ,our nation suffered a tragic air accident..I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of General Francis Omaondi Ogolla , the chief of the Kenya Defense Forces ( CDF) ,Ruto told reporters.
The crash occurred on Thursdayduring a routine visit to the area.
Ruto emphasized the nation’s mourning period and dispatched an investigation team to determine the cause of the accident.
General Ogolla, a seasoned fighter pilot, had served the military for nearly four decades.
The incident underscores concerns about the safety of military aircraft, with reports citing previous crashes due to aging equipment.
Ogolla’s tenure as Chief of the Defence Forces, though brief, was marked by dedication to national security.
