National Unity Platform (NUP) has announced plans to take the Electoral Commission (EC) to the High Court after its Busiro East MP flagbearer, Mathias Walukagga, was kicked out of the race over alleged academic gaps.
In a Thursday statement, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya accused the EC of targeting opposition candidates and acting in bad faith.

Rubongoya insists Walukagga submitted all required documents, saying the disqualification “lacked transparency and due process.”
He also pointed to what he called increasing harassment of NUP supporters by security forces, claiming several campaign activities have been disrupted through arrests and violence.
The decision has stirred tension in Busiro East. Some voters expressed frustration, saying the move leaves the constituency in an uncertain political state.

With Walukagga out, NUP now races against time to either secure his reinstatement in court or front a new candidate ahead of the 2026 polls.
Political observers say the case could widen debates on EC’s fairness and the treatment of opposition candidates during the electoral process.
