NUP Collects Over UGX 1 Billion in Just Two Days of Fundraising

Uganda’s leading opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), has announced a significant fundraising achievement- collecting over UGX 1 billion in just two days, a testament to the strong support it continues to receive from both local and international well-wishers.

The update was shared by Hon. Ronald Balimwezo, chairperson of the NUP’s special fundraising committee, during the graduation ceremony of the party’s second cohort at the NUP School of Leadership in Kamwokya.

On the first day alone, the campaign brought in UGX 135.7 million in cash and UGX 21 million in cheques. In addition, pledges amounted to UGX 869.5 million, bringing the total for the day to an impressive UGX 1.026 billion.

The momentum continued on the second day, with an additional UGX 21.2 million in cash and UGX 19.7 million received via mobile money platforms.

Balimwezo, who has expressed interest in running for Kampala Lord Mayor, praised the overwhelming response and generosity of supporters. He highlighted that donations came from all segments of society, including market vendors, boda boda riders, and Ugandans living in the diaspora.

“Some supporters gave as little as UGX 2,000, while others from abroad contributed in dollars.This shows that our people are committed to owning their struggle for change.”,he said.

The funds raised will go toward key party activities such as training, grassroots mobilization, and election preparedness.

The NUP continues to call on its supporters to contribute whatever they can, stressing that real change requires unity, participation, and collective sacrifice.
