Kampala Central MP Hon. Muhammad Nsereko has strongly criticized singer-turned-politician Hajjat Faridah Stecia Mayanja for performing at a recent National Resistance Movement (NRM) event, calling the move a betrayal of the opposition’s struggle.

Addressing journalists, Nsereko who recently announced his bid for the presidency expressed disappointment in Mayanja’s actions, accusing her of undermining the credibility of opposition politics.

“These are the kinds of people who make the opposition look unserious. How can someone who claims to lead an opposition party perform at an event hosted by the very regime we are trying to remove?” Nsereko questioned.

Stecia Mayanja, who heads the National Peasants Party (NPP), took the stage at an NRM function on the same day her party’s presidential candidate, Robert Kasibante, was being nominated a move Nsereko described as politically irresponsible.

“Your own candidate is being nominated, and instead of showing solidarity, you’re entertaining the incumbent regime. It’s a mockery of everything we’re fighting for,” he added.

Nsereko went further, criticizing the broader trend of entertainers entering politics without, in his view, a serious commitment to leadership or ideological consistency.

“If Stecia wants to focus on entertainment, she should remain in that industry and leave politics alone,” he said. “Musicians are being misused not just politically, but in ways that insult our values, including our faith.”

As of now, Stecia Mayanja has not publicly responded to Nsereko’s remarks, but the incident has sparked heated debate across social media platforms.
