Next Media Group has fired back at legal threats from human rights lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde with a bold and unyielding response: “PLEASE SUE!”
The standoff follows a legal notice from Ssemakadde’s attorneys at Mukibi & Kyeyune Advocates, who allege that Next Media’s May 5 broadcast titled “BANG THE GOLD: RADICAL NEW GOLD SCAM” defamed their client and caused significant harm.
In a letter issued by lead counsel Obadia Ismail, Next Media flatly rejected all accusations of defamation, fraud, and conspiracy, dismissing the claims as baseless and daring the legal team to follow through with their threats in court.
The initial complaint from Ssemakadde’s side accuses the media house of misrepresenting his image, unlawfully using personal information, and publishing misleading content.
They demand a sweeping remedy including Shs11 billion (approx. $3 million USD) in damages, an immediate halt to the broadcast, a full retraction, and a public apology aired across all Next Media platforms.
Next Media, however, remains undeterred. Their legal response invokes the principle actori incumbit onus probandi asserting that the burden of proof lies with the accuser.
They argue that Ssemakadde’s team must substantiate their claims in court, and warn that the media company is ready to mount a vigorous legal defense.
As tensions mount, both sides appear prepared for a prolonged legal showdownone that could carry serious consequences for the reputations and credibility of all involved.
