NRM Presidential Candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has laughed at the National Unity Platform (NUP) for fronting Florence Asio to contest against Rt. Hon. Anita Among for the Bukedea Woman MP seat, saying the two are actually relatives.
While speaking during a rally at Emokori Grounds in Bukedea District, Museveni said the move showed what he called the “shallowness” of the opposition.

“The girl (Asio) I took a picture with is a relative of Anita Among. She is the one NUP wanted to bring against her. This shows how shallow and bogus NUP is,” Museveni said.
The President made the comments shortly after receiving Florence Asio from Speaker Anita Among.
Asio, who was reportedly the NUP flag bearer, went missing a day before nominations and only resurfaced after the nomination deadline had passed. This automatically saw Anita Among declared unopposed in the Bukedea Woman MP race.

Museveni congratulated Speaker Among and other NRM candidates who went through unopposed, saying it proved that people have trust in the ruling party.
However, Anita Among denied claims that Asio was ever a member of NUP.
“She has never been in NUP and is not even a politician,” Among said while presenting her to Museveni.
The incident has sparked more controversy in Bukedea politics, and NUP is yet to comment on the matter or explain how their alleged candidate went missing and reappeared.
