Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa, president of the newly formed Common Man’s Party, has firmly denied claims that he ever sought a party ticket from Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine), leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
Munyagwa emphasized that he could never follow someone he doesn’t consider superior a category in which he includes Bobi Wine.
Contrary to circulating rumors, the former Kawempe South MP said he never approached Kyagulanyi for a ticket to join NUP. He previously served under the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) but lost his parliamentary seat to Hon. Kazibwe Bashir of NUP in the last election.
According to Munyagwa, his only meeting with Bobi Wine took place at the latter’s home in Magere, arranged by Hon. Francis Mwijukye. During that visit, Bobi Wine reportedly offered him the position of Deputy President in NUP and shared his political strategies proposals Munyagwa says he found unconvincing.
“I’ve never asked for a party ticket from Bobi Wine, and I never will. If anyone claims otherwise, they are being dishonest,I follow a principle: I don’t align with people I consider less capable than myself. I respected Dr. Besigye despite our differences. I even criticize President Museveni, but I still accord him respect. So there’s no way I can be in the same political party as Bobi Wine.”Munyagwa said.

He recounted that during their meeting, Barbie Kyagulanyi, Bobi Wine’s wife, served them breakfast as the two politicians discussed the possibility of Munyagwa joining NUP. He declined, fearing it would only create friction and possibly lead to him being branded a mole for President Museveni.
Now at the helm of his own political movement, Munyagwa has positioned the Common Man’s Party as a direct challenge to NUP.
At the party’s launch, he criticized NUP for lacking clear political direction and accused it of frequently targeting fellow opposition figures rather than focusing on the real political opponent.
