The Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs, Hon. Balaam Barugahara, has directed the Uganda Police to arrest social media influencer and TikToker Anthony Katongole a.k.a Chicken Chicken, for allegedly promoting immorality online.
The directive follows the circulation of a viral private video purportedly involving the influencer that has sparked widespread discussion on social media platforms.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Hon. Balaam condemned the videos, describing them as “immoral and damaging to the community.”
He further called on law enforcement to take immediate action, including conducting investigations and subjecting the individual to assessment and rehabilitation if necessary.
“Enough is enough. The videos circulating from a man known as ‘Chicken Chicken’ are unacceptable and damaging to our community. We call on @PoliceUg to investigate, take lawful action, and ensure the person receives appropriate assessment and rehabilitation if needed. We cannot stand by while our country’s dignity is eroded. Protecting public morality and community wellbeing is non-negotiable,” Hon. Balaam stated.
The videos, which have been widely shared online, have drawn mixed reactions, with many users alleging that Chicken Chicken is the person featured.
However, during a two-hour live broadcast on his TikTok account, the influencer denied any involvement, claiming that the individual in the videos is another man identified as Shafik. He further alleged that malicious actors are using the content to tarnish his reputation.
Chicken Chicken’s mother also defended her son, stating that a group of individuals is deliberately attempting to destroy his public image.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the minister’s directive or confirm whether any investigation has commenced.
