Patriotic League Uganda (PLU) Disciplinary Committee Chairman and Igara East MP, Michael Mawanda has been charged and remanded to Luzira prison by the Anti – corruption court in Kampala on allegations of embezzlement and defraud.
Michael Mawanda, city lawyer and two other MPs were arrested on Thursday in connection to the embezzlement of part of the Shs 164 billion meant for the compensation of cooperative societies.
Ealier today the three legislators and their Co- accused appeared before the anti – corruption chief Magistrate’s court in Kampala for allegedly diverting billions meant for war loss compensation by the government to Buyaka growers cooperative society for their personal use.
The four suspects have been remanded until July 9th,2024 as the state conducts further investigations.
The state revealed that there are still more suspects in the case.
