Renowned Ugandan band singer Mesach Ssemakula has shed light on the origins of his strained relationship with Bukedde TV journalist Josephat Sseguya, revealing that their tensions date back years and were sparked by a series of unwelcome media reports.
Speaking during a celebration marking Sseguya’s 25-year career in journalism last week, Mesach recalled the events that first created a rift between them.
The initial fallout happened when Mesach was seriously ill, suffering from a swollen leg. Wanting to keep the matter private, he declined to speak to Sseguya.
However, the journalist went on to publish a sensational headline claiming that Mesach had “abandoned” Eagles Production, a move that left the singer both shocked and under public scrutiny.
“People started attacking me,I had to give him an interview I never wanted to do. I even showed him my leg, and he took photos that ended up on the front page. I was furious.”, Mesach recounted.
The tensions deepened when Sseguya later published photos of Mesach’s home images the singer says were taken without his permission.
“I’ve always valued keeping some mystery around my personal life. I didn’t want fans to know too much, especially about my wealth.He climbed over my fence to get that shot. That photo is still the only one of my home circulating online.”,he explained.
Despite his frustrations, Mesach said he has since put the conflict behind him and respects Sseguya’s dedication to his profession.
“He’s just doing his job,” he said.
Mesach Ssemakula also continues to face ongoing health challenges. In 2023, he traveled to India for further medical investigations into his leg condition, which remains undiagnosed despite multiple tests conducted in the United States.
