Embattled Musician turned politician Mathias Walukaga has taken the Electoral Commission to the Civil Division of the High Court after his nomination for Busiro East MP was thrown out.

Walukaga, through his lawyers Erias Nalukoola and Alex Luganda, is challenging the EC’s move to nullify his nomination over academic qualification issues.

According to the Electoral Commission, the Mature Age Certificate Walukaga submitted had expired, meaning it no longer qualifies as a valid requirement for anyone seeking to run for Parliament. The law demands that every MP candidate must present acceptable academic documents equivalent to Senior Six.

The ruling followed a petition questioning his eligibility, and EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama confirmed that the certificate could not be accepted in its current state.

But Walukaga isn’t backing down. His party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), insists they vetted his papers and believe he fully qualifies. They have now appealed the EC decision, asking court to reinstate his nomination so he can stay in the 2026 race.
