Kadongo Kamu singer and Kyengera Mayor, Mathias Walukaga, has voiced his concerns over the recently approved copyright management system.
In an interview with a local television station, Mathias Walukaga expressed his lack of confidence in the new system, suggesting it was only introduced due to the approaching election year.
He believes the government is using the system as a strategy to garner support from artists, but sees little long-term value in it.

“I don’t have hope in that recently approved copyright system. It’s just a move to win the support of artists as elections draw near, but it won’t offer anything truly beneficial,” Walukaga stated.
Mathias Walukaga emphasized that the government should focus on improving citizens’ living standards and providing better social services, rather than using the system as a political tool.

The new copyright management system, which was approved by the President over the weekend, aims to register artists and their works, track music usage in bars and on media platforms like TV and radio, and ensure artists are compensated for their music plays. It also aims to combat music piracy.
