Kizza Besigye Reportedly Transferred to Private Clinic for Treatment Amid Heavy Security

32

Kizza Besigye, the former presidential candidate for the FDC, has been taken to a private medical facility at Bugolobi Village Mall under heavy security for urgent treatment.

According to Buhweju County MP Francis Mwijukye, Besigye arrived at the clinic, located on the third floor of the mall, in a wheelchair. Security personnel have been heavily deployed around the facility, which has restricted access and movement.

The medical officers at the Clinic refused to comment on Kizza Besigye’s presence, citing medical confidentiality.

“This is a medical facility, so we have confidentiality. I repeat, a medical facility has confidentiality. Thanks for calling,” a staff member told reporters.

However, Ms. Doreen Nyanjura, Kampala’s deputy Lord Mayor and a key figure in Besigye’s political circle, confirmed to our website  that the opposition leader is receiving medical treatment.

Attempts to reach Uganda Prisons spokesperson Frank Baine for comment were unsuccessful, as his phone remained unanswered.

Kizza Besigye, who has been held in remand for nearly three months despite a Supreme Court ruling for his release, appeared visibly weak and struggled to breathe during a recent court appearance, which deeply affected his supporters.

Arrested on November 16, 2024, and charged with treason in a military court, Besigye was ordered to be released by the Supreme Court last month.

However, he remains incarcerated at Luzira Prison, raising concerns about the government’s defiance of the court’s ruling.

While Uganda Prisons maintains that Besigye is in good health and receiving proper care, his supporters strongly dispute this, pointing to his frail condition in court.
