The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called for unity, responsible leadership and a strong national identity during a meeting with National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
The meeting took place at Bulange, the administrative seat of the Buganda Kingdom

.Mayiga reminded Ugandans that Bulange is open to everyone, regardless of political views, noting that cultural institutions should always promote unity and togetherness.
“Buganda belongs to Buganda, but Bulange is open to all. It is important for a leader to understand where they come from, because that helps them know where they are going,” Mayiga said.
The Katikkiro praised Kyagulanyi for always moving with the national flag, saying it is a sign of unity and shared responsibility among leaders and citizens.

“I thank you, Robert Kyagulanyi, for proudly carrying the national flag. It shows love for the country. Leadership means understanding that we all face the same challenges,” he added.
Mayiga also recalled Kyagulanyi’s last visit to Bulange in 2020 during the election period, when the kingdom leadership reminded him of Buganda’s key demands, popularly known as Ebyaffe.
“You last came here in 2020 around elections. I told you then that Buganda wants leaders who support its five demands — Ebyaffe,” Mayiga said.
The meeting was part of Kyagulanyi’s engagements with cultural and community leaders ahead of his political activities in Rubaga Division.

The discussions focused on unity, respect for cultural institutions and the need for leaders to embrace dialogue while addressing the common challenges facing Ugandans.
