Teachers and non-teaching staff at Kampala Parents School have decided to end their strike following productive discussions with various stakeholders, including businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, the owner of the school through his Ruparelia Group.
The staff had initiated the strike last week to protest low wages and allegations of unfair treatment by the school’s management.
However, after a meeting with Sudhir Ruparelia, they have agreed to return to work on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
In a letter addressed to parents, the school confirmed that the strike would end as the teachers agreed to resume their duties the following day.
During the meeting, Sudhir personally addressed their concerns, leading to several key agreements, including a commitment to raise teacher salaries beginning in January 2025. The school also pledged to stop making illegal salary deductions.
In a significant move, the school assured that no teachers involved in the strike would face suspension or dismissal.
Additionally, staff members will now be able to enroll one of their children at the school for a reduced fee of 700,000 Ugandan shillings.
The teachers’ representatives expressed their gratitude to the parents for their understanding and support throughout the strike. Mr. Sudhir also instructed the school management to prioritize addressing teacher concerns in the future.
Parents have expressed their appreciation for Sudhir’s proactive involvement in resolving the dispute, which is expected to create a more positive learning environment as the third term comes to a close.
