Earlier today, news broke about the arrest of Ugandan singer Deus Nduggwa, popularly known as Grenade Official, in China. The incident quickly gained attention online.
According to Joram Mukisa, a well-known personality in the entertainment industry who traveled with Grenade, disclosed that the singer was arrested for violating visa regulations specifically, performing while on a tourist visa.
In a video statement, Joram revealed that both he and Grenade had traveled to China for what they described as “business opportunities.” Upon arrival, local promoters offered them performance gigs, and they accepted to earn some extra income.
“We came to China with Grenade on a tourist visa, but since this is a business-oriented country, we were offered chances to perform, our first show in Guangzhou went smoothly.”Joram said
However, Chinese law requires foreign nationals to hold a valid work permit in order to engage in paid performances.

Grenade, lacking the proper documentation, was subsequently arrested for working illegally on a tourist visa.
Joram emphasized that the laws in China are very strict regarding such matters but expressed hope that Grenade would be released soon.
“We’re in touch with local authorities and trying to resolve the situation. The language barrier is a challenge, but we’re doing everything we can. God willing, we’ll find a solution.”Joram confirmed.
