Presidential aspirant John Katumba, widely recognized by his slogan “Katumba Oyee,” was turned away by the Electoral Commission on Monday after arriving without a key document required for nomination.
John KaKatumba failed to present the mandatory submission letter, which formally notifies the Commission of a candidate’s intention to submit nomination forms and supporting voter signatures. Without it, the Commission could not accept his nomination papers.
Sporting a pink blazer over a white shirt and carrying an organized stack of documents, Katumba appeared more refined compared to his improvised and youthful 2021 campaign when he famously lacked a vehicle and was eventually driven around in a battered blue Toyota Raum.

This time, he arrived at the Commission’s headquarters in Kampala in a cream-colored Toyota Prado adorned with campaign slogans advocating for job creation, free education, tax reforms, and improved infrastructure.
Although the oversight stalled his nomination, Katumba has not been disqualified. He still has time within the official nomination window to submit the missing letter and complete the process.
