The Justice Forum (JEEMA) has issued a strong reponse to comments made by National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, after he urged voters in Bugiri Municipality to replace the area MP and JEEMA party president, Hon. Asuman Basalirwa.

During a recent visit to Bugiri last week during his campaign rally, Kyagulanyi accused Basalirwa of betraying the People Power movement and advised constituents to elect new leadership.

In response, JEEMA through its spokesperson described the remarks as “inconsistent” and damaging to the collective opposition agenda, warning that such divisions weaken the struggle for change ahead of the 2026 general elections.

“We note with grave concern the inconsistencies emanating from supposed friendly forces. This comes at a critical moment when Ugandans expect unity among opposition players.”read a statement signed by JEEMA spokesperson Dr. Swaib Kaggwa Nsereko.

While emphasizing that the party would not engage in a “tit-for-tat” exchange, JEEMA questioned the logic of criticizing Basalirwa  a key opposition figure  while openly commending ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders such as the First Deputy Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.

“Will endorsing Hon. Kadaga of NRM deliver Busoga to the opposition?,and will undermining the formidable Hon. Basalirwa strengthen the opposition cause?”the statement asked.

JEEMA referenced the 2021 elections in Koboko County, where internal divisions reportedly weakened the opposition’s performance, as a warning against repeating the same mistakes.

The party concluded by calling for renewed solidarity and focus among opposition forces, urging leaders to prioritize collective goals over personal rivalries.

“We appeal to all opposition actors to remain united and resist distractions. We also extend our gratitude to the voters of Bugiri Municipality for their continued confidence in Hon. Basalirwa Asuman.”Dr.Nsereko said.
