For years, Frank Gashumba has been one of Bobi Wine’s most vocal critics, frequently taking aim at the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader. But in a surprising turn of events, Gashumba has now spoken out in praise of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, acknowledging his courage and political foresight.
Gashumba commended Bobi Wine for the bold decision to leave Parliament after only three years a move that set him apart from many Buganda politicians who have held onto their positions for decades. According to Gashumba, this act reflected self-belief, vision, and true leadership qualities.
“Whether you like Kyagulanyi or not, he set a very good precedent that many elites in Buganda failed to follow, many of those who once looked down on him didn’t believe in themselves when they had the opportunity. They chose to stay in Parliament, while Kyagulanyi took a risk, believed in himself, and went for the highest office in the land. Politically, he is ahead of many including the likes of Segona, Mpunga, and others who missed their moment.”Gashumba said.
Bobi Wine entered Parliament in 2017 after winning the Kyadondo East by-election in Wakiso District. He later resigned before completing his term to contest in the 2021 presidential elections a bold step that demonstrated his ambition to lead Uganda on a national scale.

Gashumba’s unexpected praise marks a notable shift, especially given his history of criticizing Bobi Wine. Political analysts have interpreted the statement as a sign of recognition for Bobi Wine’s determination, risk-taking, and leadership qualities.
The remarks also underscore the contrast between Bobi Wine’s daring political journey and the cautious approach of many long-serving Buganda leaders.

Gashumba’s comments may further strengthen public perception of Bobi Wine as a leader who values action and conviction over comfort and complacency.
