Uganda has been struck by a deeply emotional and symbolic loss after the father of the late former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah passed away on the exact anniversary of his son’s death.
Rt. Hon. Anita Among, the current Speaker of Parliament, confirmed that Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo died at the age of 97 on March 20, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor.
The date carries heavy significance—it marks exactly four years since the passing of Oulanyah, who died in 2022 in Seattle after battling multi-organ failure.
In a heartfelt message shared via her official X platform, Among expressed sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful moment for both the Parliament fraternity and all who held the late Speaker in high regard.
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform our esteemed colleagues, the Parliament fraternity, and all who loved our brother, the late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, that his father, Mzee Nathan Okori Adiyo, has passed away at the age of 97,” Among stated.
She extended condolences to the bereaved family, adding that funeral arrangements will be communicated after consultations are completed.
The passing of Mzee Adiyo not only closes a chapter for the Oulanyah family but also reopens memories of a leader whose legacy still resonates across Uganda’s political landscape.
