The former Executive Secretary of the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB), Mathew Bukenya has passed on.
UNEB’s spokesperson, Jennifer Kalule, confirmed his death, stating that Bukenya died on Sunday night.
The details surrounding his death are still unclear, and UNEB has yet to release an official statement.
Bukenya retired from UNEB on March 31, 2016, after a distinguished career. He was first brought out of retirement in 1997 to lead the organization, following his role as an accountant. He succeeded David Livingstone Ongom, who was dismissed by the government.
During his tenure, Bukenya served as the head of UNEB for over 17 years.
Under his leadership, the board made significant progress in reducing examination malpractice, implementing measures such as concealing examiners’ identities and dismissing those who compromised their anonymity.
Details regarding his funeral and burial arrangements have not yet been announced. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
