Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo has addressed the altercation that took place during a campaign event for the Kawempe North by-elections, where he was seen pushing away a Special Forces Command (SFC) officer attempting to stop his performance.

The incident, captured in a viral video, occurred while Kenzo was supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag-bearer, Faridah Nambi, in the presence of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a statement to journalists, Kenzo defended his actions, explaining that he was not seeking conflict but had been provoked.

“I don’t engage in fights anymore, but I had to react after being disrespected by the security operative,” he said.

Kenzo explained that he had been addressing the crowd, hoping to communicate the concerns of the ghetto community, who made up a significant portion of the audience. However, this did not sit well with some of the event organizers.

According to Kenzo, a security officer, after receiving instructions through a radio call, was sent to the stage to remove him.

“I’m not a violent person, and I always regret incidents like this. If anyone was offended by my actions, I apologize, the officer was the first to approach me aggressively while i was performing.”,he added.

Kenzo also emphasized that his actions were driven by frustration and the feeling of disrespect.

“I don’t fight anymore. I stopped that 10 years ago. He was the first to attack me on stage as I was performing, and I don’t regret my reaction,” he stated.

The incident has sparked mixed reactions, with some fans supporting Kenzo’s response while others question the need for such confrontation.
